luggage storage · Florence from the Livorno cruise port
Off the ship in Livorno. Florence, hands-free.
From the ship to the train
The cruise terminals in Livorno are not within walking distance of the station. Most passengers do one of two things: a taxi from the dock to Livorno Centrale, about ten minutes; or the port shuttle to Piazza Grande in the centre, and from there a city bus or a taxi to the station. Some ships run a shuttle straight to the station: ask on board the evening before, and check the time of its first run, because an early train is the whole point of the day.
Regional trains from Livorno Centrale reach Florence Santa Maria Novella in 1 h 15 to 1 h 40, depending on the service; most of them stop at Pisa Centrale on the way. Check the timetable on the Trenitalia site or app a few days before you sail: it changes with the season and with engineering work.
From the platform to the counter
Both shops are a couple of minutes from the platforms, on different sides of the station. Largo Alinari is the closer one from the Via Valfonda side exit; Via Santa Caterina da Siena is straight out of the main hall. Both are staffed from 9:00 to 20:00 and work the same way: a person takes the bag, locks it in a numbered locker and gives you a receipt.

The day in Florence
From Largo Alinari the Duomo is 700 m, about 9 minutes on foot, and the Uffizi and Ponte Vecchio a few minutes further in the same direction. Everything a day trip wants is inside the walkable centre, and you come back the same way, to the same counter. A day bag is all you need to carry.
The one time that matters
Your ship sets the clock, not our closing time: we are open until 20:00, and cruise ships usually leave Livorno earlier than that. Work backwards from the all-aboard time printed in the ship’s daily programme. The train back takes up to 1 h 40, the station to the ship is another fifteen to thirty minutes, and a late regional train is not rare. A safe rule: be on a train that reaches Livorno at least an hour before all-aboard, which from Florence means leaving about two and a half hours before. If you are cutting it fine, call the shop while it is still open: +39 055 936 4341 (Largo Alinari) or +39 055 012 7147 (Via Santa Caterina).
