How the deposit works

We ask for a deposit of €49.90 for the pocket wifi and €149.90 for the 5G router. When you pick the device up we block it on your card at the counter, and we release it when you bring it back. Nothing is charged. You’ll get an email the moment it’s released; your bank can take a few days to show it.

  1. Card saved

When you book, you pay the rental and we keep the card on file as a backup for the deposit.

  2. Held at the counter

At pick-up we block the deposit on your card with the shop’s terminal. It’s a hold, not a payment.

  3. Released at return

When the device is back and checked, we release it and email you the time.

Shipped rentals work differently: nothing is blocked. We keep the card on file and only use it, for the deposit amount, if the device isn’t returned or comes back damaged. The SIM inside is ours: a device that isn’t returned stops working.

Pick up here, return there

Collect at any of our shops and hand it back at any other, on your way out. Shipping to an address in Italy, or to your hotel, costs €9.90.

Tested in front of you

At the counter we run a speed test on the device you’re taking and write the result on your receipt: the speed, the time and the shop. If anything stops working during your trip, walk into any of our shops and we swap it.

Pocket wifi or eSIM?

An eSIM wins on your own with a recent phone. A hotspot wins for groups, families and anyone with a laptop or a camera.

Questions about the rental

What happens to the deposit?

When you pick the device up we block €49.90 on your card with the shop’s own terminal. It is a hold, not a payment: nothing is charged. When you bring the device back we release it at the counter and email you the time. Your bank can take five to ten days to show it again.

How long does the battery last?

The hours for the model we rent are written on this page, next to the device, and come from the maker. In practice a full day of maps and messages is fine; streaming video all afternoon drains it faster. Charge it overnight with any USB charger, or keep a power bank with you.

What if I lose it or it breaks?

If it stops working, walk into any of our shops and we swap it on the spot. If it is lost or comes back damaged, we use the deposit, in part or in full up to €49.90, and email you the reason with a photo. The SIM inside is ours: a device that is not returned stops working.

Can I return it in another city?

Yes. Pick it up in Florence and hand it back in Naples or Capri, or the other way round: any of our shops takes it, during opening hours, nine to eight every day. Choose the return shop when you book, or change it later from your rental page. No online operator can offer this.

Does it work on the train and in the countryside?

It uses the Italian mobile network, like a phone with a local SIM: fast in towns and on the main lines, slower in tunnels and in remote valleys, where phones struggle too. The speed we test at the counter is what the device does in the shop; on the move it varies with the network.

Can I keep it longer than planned?

Yes. Extend from your rental page before the return time: the difference is charged to the same card and the new return date goes on your rental. If you simply bring it back late, each day or part of a day costs the daily price of the device, taken from the card on file.

Can you ship it to my hotel?

Yes, to an address in Italy or to a hotel or B&B with a reception, with a tracked parcel and a prepaid return label in the box. For shipped rentals nothing is blocked: we keep the card you pay with on file and only use it if the device is not returned or comes back damaged.

Would an eSIM be better for me?

If you travel alone with a recent phone and only need data on it, probably yes: an eSIM costs about the same per day and there is nothing to carry or return. A hotspot wins for two or more people, for a laptop or a camera, and when you want to keep your own number for calls.

Internet for the whole trip.

From €4.99 a day. Pick it up at the counter, hand it back where you like.
